Brief info

Chris has a degree in Accounting and Marketing from Massey University. He started in business early in his adult life by developing and growing the Tremain Real Estate brand.

In 2005, he successfully stood for the New Zealand Parliament becoming the MP for Napier. He did this for three terms rising to the role of Senior Whip from 2008 to 2011 and then a Minister from 2011 to 2014. Chris was Cabinet Minister for Local Government and Internal Affairs and worked directly with former National Prime Minister John Key in the role of Associate Minister of Tourism.

Chris left Parliament in 2014 to return to the business world. He was immediately appointed to Chair the Bank of China in New Zealand which he continues today. The bank has enjoyed strong profitable growth under his tenure.

Chris started his own investment company in 2015 -Tremain Capital - which brings together high net worth clients to invest in commercial property and agri-businesses.
Since leaving Parliament, Chris has also chaired a number of central and local government working groups including an Inquiry into the Racing Industry, a review of the Capital Structure of the Hawkes Bay Regional Council and Port of Napier (leading to the Ports IPO in 2019), and the Hawke’s Bay Working Group on Drinking Water.
Chris is a member of the Cranford Hospice Foundation and was appointed to the Board of New Zealand United Export Limited as Chairman on November 8, 2019.
